Tired of a worn-out cream scheme, the owners decided it was time to introduce a more lively and contemporary look to their living room. When my husband and I bought this house, it needed a lot of work, but the living room was one of the first areas to be tackled,’ says the owner. ‘We didn’t have a huge budget, but once we’d stripped the wallpaper and had the walls replastered and painted, it looked much better.
Colours seen in nature, such as sky blue and restful leaf green have a calming effect on us, while red is a stimulating shade and yellow is uplifting (sunshine yellow… need we say more?). The key to decorating with one colour on walls and furniture is to use different shades of the same colour together, such as a soft apple green sofa alongside emerald metal side tables. It?s also a good idea to mix textures, for example combining matt paint on walls with a sleek, glossy lamp base. Try and work your colour scheme into all areas of your living room – such as your bay windows.
Embellish an old mirror, your favourite quote, poem or lyric will transform a mirror into a personal artwork, perfect for living room. Begin by marking out straight lines using low-tack masking tape, then, working from left to right, stick on the letters.
